Periodistas de Investigación began in Mexico City
in September 1996 with two employees and five IRE members from Mexico.
It has grown in little more than a year to include more than 150
members in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Colombia and Argentina.
PI is dedicated to promoting investigative reporting in Latin America
and offers workshops, conferences, a bi-monthly newsletter and an
archive of investigative stories to its members. Spanish-speaking
U.S. members of IRE are invited to subscribe to the newsletter,
La Red, for $25 (US) per year.
The membership price for journalists working in Mexico and Latin
America is also $25 per year and includes the newsletter, discounts
to courses and conferences and discounts on books written by PI
members that are sold by PI.
In addition to membership support, PI is supported in its first
three years by a grant from the Robert
McCormick Tribune Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Chicago
Tribune company, which is based in Chicago, Illinois. The McCormick
Tribune Foundation supports press freedom and improved access to
information with numerous projects in Latin America and PI is very
grateful for its support.
